Rules
Participants may sign-up as:
A writer/artist to be matched with an artist/writer
An individual
An existing collaborative team
A beta
You must be 18 or older and certify that you are 18 or older to join the event.
Discord ID is mandatory with sign-up, and you must join the event discord. It is not required to participate in discussions, but you are expected to read announcements.
If mods need to contact you, they will send a Discord message. If you do not respond within 48 hours, it may result in a strike or removal from the event.
Be respectful of other participants and their creations in the server and on social media. Avoid dogpiling. Online harassment will not be tolerated.
Treat your mods like human beings.
The focus of the majority of explicit scenes in the work must be on Lan Wangji submitting, but he may be a BDSM switch. There are no requirements for Top/Bottom dynamics.
Lan Wangji may be shipped with any characters from MDZS and its adaptations.
No crossovers.
No RPF.
No explicit underage.
Contact a mod as soon as possible if you are having communication difficulties or conflict with an event partner or anyone in the server, if you need an extension*, or you need to drop. Mods can only help if we know something’s wrong.
*Asking earlier is better. Last minute extensions will only be granted for emergencies (i.e. hospitalization, loss, natural disasters, sudden changes in employment/housing), and not for regularly scheduled homework and exams.
Rules for Writers
Please note that some rules are different for matched and individual writers.
The work must qualify as Mature or Explicit on AO3.
Mods anticipate more writers than artists at sign ups. Writers will be able to indicate on the sign-up form if they want to be matched, but are willing to write as an individual if the ratio of writers to artists is too high. Mods will do their best to match everyone. If a writer picks this option and is not matched, the rules for individual writers will apply.
Fics shorter than the minimum word count will not be included in the event AO3 collection.
Fics or WIPs cannot have been published to AO3 or any fic hosting platform in the past. All fics must have been created for this event.
You may begin writing your fic before the event starts.
Use appropriate AO3 warnings when posting your work
The work should be beta read for a minimum of spelling and grammar. There will be a beta pool in the server that can be pinged at any point in the writing process
When pinging the beta role, post a brief summary, ship, warnings, current word count and what you’re looking for help with (i.e. soundboarding, spelling and grammar, flow, plot consistency, etc.)
Matched Writers:
Minimum word count: 5000 words
Submitting a brief summary (max. 1000 words) giving an overview of the fic’s plot as well as predicted AO3 tags is required with sign up. This summary must spoil the ending and any major warnings.
As matches will be anonymous, the fic must be a stand alone or the first installment of a series.
Teasers/works-in-progress may be posted to your socials after matching. You may tag the event account for a boost.
This is a collaboration, not a commission. Writers may discuss concepts to portray with their artist, but the artist should have creative freedom.
Writers must respond to messages from their artist within 72 hours barring extenuating circumstances.
A rough draft meeting the minimum word count is required at the final check in. If you’re writing a longer fic and it’s less than 90% complete, contact a mod in advance of the check in.
Individual Writers:
Minimum word count: 3000 words
The fic may be part of an existing series.
Teasers/works-in-progress may be posted to your socials. You may tag the event account for a boost.
Rules for Artists
The minimum for digital art and scanned traditional art is a clean sketch.
Minimum dimensions for illustrations: 500 pixels wide, any height, and 300 dpi/ppi.
AI generated art is explicitly forbidden. Any artist found using AI generated art will be banned immediately.
Teasers/works-in-progress may be posted to your socials. You may tag the event account for a boost.
During the posting period, artists may choose to post the final piece to their socials and/or the event collection on AO3.
Matched Artists:
Artists who want to be paired may indicate if they are willing to be matched with more than one writer.
The work does not need to be explicit, and may be based on any scene in the matched fic.
Formats such as gifsets, videos, and photomanips are allowed.
As this is a collaboration, artists should discuss what they want to portray with their writer and make an effort to read what their writer shares with them.
Artists must upload a postable draft at the final check-in, though any changes or additions may be made afterward. Watermarking/cloaking against AI is welcome.
Artists must respond to messages from their writer within 72 hours barring extenuating circumstances.
Individual Artists:
Work must be mature or explicit.
Digital art, traditional art, or animations are allowed for individual works. For other formats, please contact a mod with your plan.
Rules for Betas
Betas may react to receive a pingable role in the server, where writers may request a beta when they’re ready for feedback.
Writers will provide a summary, warnings, word count, and expectations when asking for a beta. Betas shouldn’t feel obliged to pick up a work they’re not interested in.
Follow your writer or writers’ guidelines and expectations, e.g., if a writer only wants feedback on SPAG and not on plot holes, don’t try to fill any perceived plot holes.
Remain in open and consistent communication with your writer, responding to requests within 72 hours, barring extraneous circumstances.
FAQ
What counts as Subji?
Subji can be Lan Wangji participating in a whole spectrum of kinks in a submissive fashion. Bondage, impact play, sensation play, sensory deprivation, and many more. Lan Wangi can be a BDSM switch in works for this event, so long as the focus is on his submission. What is the difference between Dom/sub and top/bottom? Can Lan Wangji top in this event?
Dom/sub is specifically a BDSM concept and does not indicate who is penetrating whom, or whether any penetrative sex (or indeed, sex at all) is occuring. Top and bottom are also used within kink communities in different contexts like “rope top,” or “sensation play bottom.” So far as penetration goes, this event has no rules. What happens if there are more writers who want to be matched than artists?
Mods will do their best to match everyone. Writers may indicate on their sign-up if they are willing to forgo being matched. Can I join the event if I’m a writer/artist who doesn’t want to be paired?
Yes! Individual participation is welcome. Can I sign up for more than one role?
Yes! Please evaluate the possible workload before signing up for more than one role. When can I start working on my fic or individual art work?
As soon as you want. Just remember that if you’re a writer who wants to be matched with an artist, don’t share anything publicly until after the claims period. Why does my summary have to spoil the ending? Why are tags necessary?
Summaries help artists know what they will be signing up for. Having details will help give them ideas on what they might want to create. Artists should be able to get started creating their work as soon as they agree on a concept with their writer after matching.
If you’re signing up as an individual writer, an outline is not required. How do claims work?
Writers provide a summary and information including ships and expected tags at sign-ups. Mods will then create a list of available works for artists to peruse. Artists will fill out a form to rank their claims. Mods will use a matching software to match artists to writers based on claims, and make corrections manually to ensure the largest number of works possible are matched. How do check-ins work?
Check-ins are a short form where writers and artists will include a working* link to their progress and a plan for completion. If the link does not work, participants will receive a DM from a mod to correct it. Mods will store a copy of drafts in case of technological emergencies. What do I do if I’m below the word count at a check-in?
This is meant to be a lowkey event, and the word count minimums are short. At the 50% check in, don’t panic – just provide a plan for completion. At the rough draft check-in, the minimum word count or a postable art draft is required. Please let mods know as soon as possible if there are extenuating circumstances.
For longer fics, if you’re less than 90% of estimated word count, contact a mod at least a day before check-ins close to discuss your circumstances and plan for completion.
If you’re an individual writer or artist, you have more leeway. Just make sure to let mods know if you won’t be able to make your posting date. What happens if my partner drops?
For artists, mods may offer a rematch, or ask if you would like to post your work as an individual. For writers, mods may try to find a pinch hitter, depending on artist availability. If mods can’t find a pinch hitter, you would be welcome to post as an individual.
